Kansas Tornadoes

Kansas weather is like the gift that keeps on giving (cheese of the month club, anyone?). But not nearly as fun. Last night we had a HUGE storm blow through with hail, wind and tornadoes. I never knew you could get tornadoes in the Fall, but YES you can.

The hail started just as Joe was getting home from work. First they started out quarter size...

Then they got to baseball sized and larger! (One lady on the news got a piece of hail 7 inches in diameter!!)

Boomer? Well, he was freaking out. And honestly, so was I!

When the storm moved off I was too hyper to fix dinner so we ordered Thai food. (Joe asked if we should have them deliver it but I thought that might be a little too much to ask since the storm was heading right for their store downtown!!)

It was quite the interesting evening around here!!

Second Birthday

Last weekend Joe and I went to Kansas City so we could celebrate my best friend's daughter's birthday. Her little girl is TWO! I don't know why we were celebrating her second birthday because I swear she was just born last week. Ha!

This is the birthday girl!

Did I ever mention how much I love baby feet? I think they are absolutely delicious.

The theme of the day was Dora!

Me and her mama - we've been best friends since we were in the 7th grade!!
We took several walks because the weather was perfect!!! (I remember at her first birthday party she was just learning to put several steps together. And now look!)

And this is the my favorite picture of the day (click to enlarge) :)
Happy Birthday, Isabelle!!

Back Home

We made it back home from Las Vegas! Our last full night we decided to take a limo off the strip as a big group and eat a nice dinner. It was so much fun! We came back to the strip and the boys all played blackjack and us girls stood around and talked about important things like shoes.

Well. Speaking of shoes.

We flew home yesterday on Allegiant Air and ohmygoodness can I just say never again!? The plane was so rickity that I truly didn't know if we would make it home! We had the seats by the exit row and we had the biggest draft coming through the door that my hands were turning blue. I had sandals on and my feet were so cold that Joe took off his (sweaty size 14) tennis shoes and let me stick my feet in them! Nothing says true love like donating your stinky shoes in the name of hypothermia! Ha!

Happy Friday, y'all!!

I'm in Vegas!

I haven't posted in a few days because we've been in Las Vegas since Sunday! We are here for a conference for Joe's work. He and three other residents came and they each brought their wives.

We're staying at the Planet Hollywood towers, which is right off the strip and there are a TON of stores right on the first floor of our hotel. I think Joe is regretting booking this hotel because I wake up every morning and say "let's go shop!!" Ha!

We've also been little piggies!! Our favorite thing to do in Vegas is go to Serendipity and get a big frozen hot chocolate to share. We bought a canister of the mix so we can try to make it ourselves at home. I told Joe we should get enough to fill up our whirlpool tub so I can go swimming in it!! Ha! (diet starts Monday)

Football Fans

Saturday Joe and I went to Oklahoma to watch the first football game of the season!!

We are proud OU alums and when I sing the fight song and hear the band playing at the beginning of a game I get chills and maybe even a little misty-eyed! Ha!

We had great seats at the front of the upper deck with the Student Section right below us. The whole game I kept thinking about how Joe and I would come to all the games when we were in college. We would have to get into the stadium three hours before kickoff to get a seat!

The score ended up being closer than we thought it would. Of course I was hoping for a shut out!! Ha!

Were you rooting for a college football team this weekend??

I am so glad Fall is coming and most especially college football season is here! :)

Life as a Resident's Wife

To finish up our Blog Hop, I'm going to talk about life as a resident's wife. I'll admit, we're only 1 year in (3 years to go), so I hope some of you more experienced wives link up so you can REALLY share what it's like being a resident's wife! Ha!

We ended up in Kansas for Joe's anesthesiology residency and we were so glad because we love the Midwest and all of our family and friends are within a three hour drive from us.

The first year of residency (intern year) was definitely difficult for us but I feel like we were really well prepared for what to expect. Plus, Joe's program is awesome. I think a big part of residency depends on the program you're in.

During intern year Joe had a different rotation every month. All of his hard rotations were scheduled on the front end so we literally dove in head first! Ha! In the beginning his pager would go off hourly throughout the night. I told everyone it was good practice for having a newborn someday. But honestly, all I wanted to do was flush that thing down the toilet. It was also an adjustment to go from a relaxed student's schedule to have Joe working long hours every day. But I got serious about having a good supper waiting for him when he got home and we made sure to schedule date nights at least once a week. It honestly wasn't that bad!

This year Joe is doing anesthesia almost 100% of the time. He loves his job and he says he's excited to go to work every morning even if it is at 5am. That makes no sense to me! Ha!

Even still, Joe spends a lot of time reading and studying. He is on call about 5 times a month, which means he has to spend the night at the hospital. On days where he's on call he gets the afternoon before his call off and the whole day after his shift off. We almost always go to lunch together for a little daytime date on his post call day! When he's on call there's always a chance he will get woken up and not get much sleep so he usually gets a good nap in the next day. Being an anesthesiologist, he hardly ever gets pages anymore when he's home. And on days when he's not on call he always gets home by 5:30pm. Like I said, he is in a really great program!

Link up to your personal blog and share your own residency stories or your plans for residency! :)

Happy Friday!!

What's In My Purse

Since I finally cleaned all the old receipts out of my purse (please tell me I'm not the only one), I decided to do a "What's in your purse" post. I promise I didn't plant anything in here. In fact, I'm a little embarrassed by the number of lip products I have. Ha!

So here we go...

Bag: Bulga Crescent bag from a long time ago
Two bottles of medicine: which is funny because I hate taking pills and I rarely ever do
Wallet: Louis Vuitton monogram, this was my "leather" gift for our 3 year wedding anniversary
Teal compact mirror: from Claire's when I worked there in High School. That's been a day or two ago...Ha!
Sunglasses: a Coach pair I found cheap at the outlet mall and a Paul Smith pair I love from TJMaxx.
Sony Bloggie HD Flip Videocamera that is never charged
Raising Cane's keychain: best chicken strips in Oklahoma, my father-in-law got me a keychain
Black hairtie
Lots of lip products: My favorite is MAC Viva Glam V lipstick
Purell hand sanitizer
Chapstick: from LipVitamins
Big Red gum
Sharpie markers: assorted colors, fine tip left over from the shower I hosted last weekend
Passports: I don't know why but I have mine and also Joe's.
Checkbook: I never write checks! The last time I did I forgot to sign it! Ha!

What's in YOUR purse?!? Either leave a comment below or link us to your blog post! :)
