Procrastinate

Joe and I are heading to Kansas City this weekend to watch his little brother graduate from High School. As far as packing goes, I'm following my tried and tested method of... procrastinating. Ha!

What are your plans for this weekend?

Randomly Random

Here's some of the random things swirling around in my head today...

1) I took this picture of a magazine article - love the idea of a double drawer dishwasher. I'm not convinced it would actually make doing dishes fun (that's pretty lofty) but I think it could be great for parties! By the way, one of my ultimate tips for party hosting is start the party with an unloaded dishwasher. That way when you are cleaning up you don't have to unload and put dishes away - you can just slip everything in and get back to your guests!

2) We're still dealing with this. No it's okay, I didn't want to watch any regularly scheduled programming anyway! Ha!

3) Could Kourtney Kardashian look any cuter here?!?!

Hope your day is randomly awesome :)

Twister Outbreak 2010

I know it's Tuesday but I'm just now getting over my weekend! Friday afternoon I decided I would head back to Kansas City to visit my mom to celebrate Mother's Day. It was a last minute decision but Joe was working all weekend so I figured it might be nice to get away for the weekend. I LOVE going home because my parents live on the most peaceful farm. I swear you drive down the (gravel) road and your blood pressure lowers! Ha!

Saturday morning my childhood best friend Shawna, her mom and her little girl Isabelle and I went to the KC Zoo. It was so much fun and the weather was perfect. I love this little girl!!

Then on Saturday night my parents and I made our own pizza crusts for homemade pizza. I don't think I would be cut out to work at a pizzeria! Ha! I love this picture of my parents.

By the way, I have decided that Olive Garden puts garlic powder on the bottom of their pizza crust. It is THE BEST.

I decided on Sunday night that I wasn't ready to go home so I planned to leave early Monday morning.

I always say God laughs at our plans because this was before Twister Outbreak of 2010 decided to erupt across Kansas and Oklahoma.

My mom and Joe both forbade me to come home so I stayed another day and prayed (PRAYED A LOT) that our house would still be standing when Joe got home from work.

Luckily our house was saved but there was damage in our town and several people lost their lives in Oklahoma (not to mention the houses that were destroyed). I have very good friends who are storm chasers in Oklahoma and even they were intimidated by these storms.

Oh boy, Spring in the Midwest...

Cinco De Mayo Party

Last night Joe and I went to a party with all of the other first year Anesthesia residents and their wives and kids. We try to get together once a month and I LOVE getting together because we all have so much in common.

Friday is Katie's birthday - she's married to one of the other residents. So I made her an (amateur) chocolate cake. I asked Joe how to say "Happy Birthday" in Spanish so I could write it on the top of the cake. Huge boo-boo on my part - I decorated the cake on this cute cake pedestal I have and then I realized I didn't have any way of covering it up! So I rode all the way with it on my lap willing Joe to NOT hit any bumps!! Ha!

We had all kinds of Mexican food. The girl that hosted has parents who own a restaurant and she's a great hostess and cook herself!

Joe and I bought a pinata and stuffed it with all the kids' favorite candy. There's only three kids in the group right now but they keep everyone pretty entertained as it is.

Did you do anything for Cinco de Mayo???

Life Lesson

And I thought the fact that my basement flooded from a burst pipe was
the end of the world.

Well... people in Nashville are experiencing REAL flooding.

My mom always told me, "No matter how bad you think YOU have it, there's always someone who has it worse."

I have a serious question for you. Do you ever see someone's life and you think "Man, she's got it all together. She's got the perfect life. The perfect husband. Or the perfect job. Or the cutest, most well behaved kids. Or the biggest house. Or maybe the coolest car. Or the most interesting vacations or hobbies." I do. But I'm learning that no one is free from problems. It's important in life to appreciate the things you DO have. Please tell me I'm not the only one who struggles with this! Ha!

Scarlet Threads

Honey, check me out! Ha! I got my new apron from Scarlet Threads and LOVE IT!!

I don't usually cook in a dress and all fixed up but we had just gotten home from church and I was making lunch! Trust me, usually I'm in sweat pants! Ha!

I love this company. They sell products made by women overseas under strict fair trading guidelines. This helps the women maintain a safe and reliable place to work.

Plus, their stuff is darn cute.

Last night Joe and I discovered our entire basement was flooded. We had a water evacuation team come out (they didn't leave until 3:30 this morning) and we've got ripped up carpet and walls at this point. It's been a rough day already. I'm hoping for the strength to laugh (because that's better than crying!) through all this. Hope your Monday is better than mine!!
